Fort Mill, NC-A Popular Tourist Attraction

Fort Mill, a small town in York County in South Carolina, is a municipality in Orange County. It's located south-west of the bustling city of Raleigh, in between Orange City and Rock Hill, in South Carolina's northwest corner. As of 2020, about 20,000 people call Fort Mill home. The city is also home to a historic black church that was used as a place of worship for several generations of blacks before they were allowed to worship in a more secular community. A historical marker can be found on Hwy. 7 in Fort Mill and it commemorates this location as the first black church in Orange County. The Church of Christ was built around 1856. Although most of the church's congregation is made up of African Americans, some whites are members of this historic congregation. Today Fort Mill has become a very popular tourist attraction, attracting tourists from all over the world. There are many restaurants and other accommodations for visitors to stay in while visiting the town. Fort Mill is also home to a number of cultural attractions. Many historic buildings, such as the Old Soldiers Home, are still occupied by the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. In addition to the Old Soldiers' Home, the city also includes the former Woolworth Park and the Orange County Historic Courthouse, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
